Change doesn't just happen. Change is uncomfortable. Change is scary. According to recent research, there are several stages to change. During change a person moves from
precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance.
Do you fall into one of these categories?
- Precontemplation - I can’t or won’t change, or I’m not even thinking of a change.
- Contemplation - Gaining interest and learning more about the issue in question.
I might make a change in the next six months or I'm planning on
making a change in this time frame.
- Preparation - Through emotional arousal and self-evaluation, I'm committed to
making a change in the next month.
- Action - Through extinguishing old habits and creating new ones with the assistance of
a professional coach. I am taking steps in making the change happen.
- Maintenance - and reinforcement of the change often with the aid of social support.
I've been working on the behavior for at least six months.
- Termination - of the change process when the new behavior has been fully integrated
into your lifestyle.
